You have an iPad 1 or 2 the best thing you can do for your iPad is to buy some ipad accessories. The first thing I would purchase is a screen protector, you want to make sure you don't get any scratches or scuffs on the screen. So to keep it brand new buy a screen protector. Next thing I would get would be a case to protect the rest of the iPad, if you are going to invest in a few hundred dollars in this type of equipment, you can sound a couple bucks on at least two accessories. Of course there are more accessories you can buy for your iPad, but I feel those 2 are most the essential for your iPad.
