Outdoor Lighting

By allkinds on Jun 22, 2010 | In Home and Garden

outdoor lights
I live out in the country and when it gets dark its get really dark. It is so dark that you can’t see a thing unless you have some outdoor garden lighting. I a few weeks ago I added a light pole and now I am thinking about adding some more lights so it can be a bit brighter. Here you never know what could be crawling through the ground like snakes or any rodents. I don’t want to take any chances so that is why I am thinking about adding accent lighting, I just don’t like taking my puppy out at night and not being able to see my feet.

Funeral Costs

By allkinds on Jun 16, 2010 | In misc

It’s really hard for some people to talk about death and funerals, but its part of life. We will all go sometime; I just hope that I am really old before I do. When my uncle passed away in December we had to make arrangements for his funeral. It is amazing how much a funeral can cost and all that goes with making the arrangements for a funeral. I was told about a site that talks about funerals and the funeral costs. The website is called Funeral Wise and the website offers a lot of useful information that I thought it was worth mentioning.

Restrooms

By allkinds on Jun 9, 2010 | In Bath and Body, misc

There is nothing more that I hate then walking into a public restroom and finding the restroom to be dirty, having no water in the restroom or having things not work as they should. I was at a public restroom the other day, and the restroom was very clean, so I entered to do my business. I washed my hands and when I went to grab some napkins from the dispenser there were none. Okay I said to myself no problem they have some hand dryers I can use instead. Well guess what they didn’t work, I could not believe it. Here we have an extra clean bathroom with no working hand dryers or any napkins to dry your hands. Why can’t owners just make sure they have clean working bathrooms? Does anyone else feel this way? Don’t get me wrong I have gone into some restrooms where everything was just wonderful, but why can’t they all be this way?

Shopping in the Bronx

By allkinds on Jun 9, 2010 | In Apparel and Shoes

Clothing
When I used to live in New York, my family and I used to go to a store called Jimmy Jazz. They had these stores all over Bronx and they sold a variety of hip hop clothing. That is one of things I miss about NY, the clothes. You could find all types of clothing any style you wanted for a very good price. Now that we have the Internet more and more stores like these are coming alone and selling their products online as well. Seeing the website brought back a lot of memories of us walking up and down Fordham Rd checking out the stores and going shopping.

Give me five mins and I'll show you some training suggestions to prevent osteoporosis

By allkinds on Jun 2, 2010 | In Fitness and Health

About ten mil Americans have osteoporosis, and another 34 million have low bone mass, (osteopenia).

A disease without symptoms, osteoporosis affects about 20 percent of men and 80 % of women.

Given that the bones gradually become weaker, they may break in a minor fall or, if left untreated, even from simple things like a sneeze.

The commonest fracture sites can be hip, wrist and spine, although any bone in your body could be affected.

A diagnosis of osteopenia or osteoporosis may be scary, leading a number of people to stop exercisse because of fear it will cause fractures.

The reality is that people with low bone mass should make sure to exercise often.

Being active is shown to not only aid the prevention of osteoporosis, but slow bone loss once it's already begun.

Before beginning a workout program, you should talk to your doctor for guidelines, as level of bone loss determines what type of exercise is best.

Physicians can assess bone mineral density and fracture risk by scanning your body using a special type of X-ray machine.

In conjunction with exercise, treatment may include dietary modifications and/or estrogen replacement therapy.

The more knowledge you get concerning this condition, the more you can do to help prevent its onset.

To create strength and bone mass, both weight-bearing and strength training work outs are ideal.

Weight-bearing work outs are the ones that require the bones to fully support your weight against gravity.

Examples are walking, jogging, stair climbing, dancing or using an elliptical exercise machine.

Non-weight bearing exercises include biking, swimming, water aerobics and rowing.

Weight-bearing activities including walking as little as 3 times per week may benefit the bones.

Strength training places mechanical force (stress) on our bodies, which increases bone density.

Start by lifting light weights, moving in a slow and controlled manner, increasing resistance as you become stronger.

It is recommended that individuals with osteoporosis avoid the following kinds of activity:

* Step aerobics and high-impact activities for example running, jumping, tennis.

* Activities that involve rounding, bending and twisting of the spine.

* Moving the legs sideways or across the body, particularly when performed against resistance.

* Rowing machines, trampolines.

* Every movement that involves pulling on the head and neck.

Exercise Tips:

* Even if you don't have osteoporosis, you should check with your health care provider just before you start an exercise program.

* Be sure you warm-up before beginning and cool down at the end of each exercise session.

* To get the best benefit to your bone health, combine a number of different weight-bearing exercises.

* When you build strength, increase resistance, or weights, as an alternative to repetitions.

* Make sure to drink a lot of water whenever exercising.

* Vary the types of exercise that you do weekly.

* Combine weight bearing and resistance exercise with aerobic exercises to help you improve your overall health.

* Bring your friend along to help you keep going or in addition to this, bring your family and encourage them to be healthy.

* Add more work out to your day; take the stairs vs. the elevator, park further way, and walk to your co-worker's office rather than emailing.

Put LIVE into action!

L - Load or weight-bearing exercises make a difference to your bones

I - Intensity builds stronger bones.

V - Vary the types of exercise as well as your routine to keep interested.

E - Enjoy your exercises. Make exercise fun so you will continue into the future!

Certain factors raise the probability of developing osteoporosis.

While a few of these risk factors are controllable, others won't be.

Risk factors that may be controlled are: Sedentary lifestyle, excess intake of protein, sodium,

caffeine and/or alcohol, smoking, calcium and Vitamin D deficiencies and taking certain medicines.

Body size (small frame), gender, family history and ethnicity are risk factors that can't be controlled.

Women can lose nearly 20 percent of their bone mass in the five to seven years after menopause,

which makes them more vunerable to osteoporosis.

It is never too soon to start thinking about bone mineral density.

About 85-90 percent of adult bone mass is acquired by age 18 in girls and 20 in boys.

Nutrition and Exercise for Healthy Bones in childhood and Adolescence

Much of the reserve of healthy bone is built in youth and before the age of 30.

Women might be more susceptible to an inadequate foundation process at this time than men.

Sufficient calcium intake,a balanced diet with a lot of vegetables and fruits and

load-bearing exercise are the tips for solid bone growth when you're young.

Then, with continued exercise into old age - and this benefits men too -- bone density decline could be kept to a minimum.

Although women will be the main focus of data about osteoporosis and low bone density (osteopenia),

some men are also seriously afflicted by this problem.
In case you do all the right things while becoming an adult and into adulthood, your inherited characteristics - your genes -

can present you with bones that are susceptible to osteoporosis. This is even greater reason to maximize your lifestyle to prevent poor bone health.

Vitamins

By allkinds on May 31, 2010 | In Fitness and Health

Some doctors believe that you shouldn’t let your body rely on vitamins; they say you should all the vitamins you need from the food you eat. But then you have some doctors who believe that if you take a vitamin and are a women, you should be taking womens vitaminsas these vitamins are made just for women with the essential ingredients a women needs. I think with the vast opinions on this subject its best to ask your doctor or pharmacist if you need vitamins and which one is best from you.

Do you have problems with comments

By allkinds on May 31, 2010 | In misc

If you have a blog are you allowing comments on it? Are you moderating your comments? Or do they automatically appear on your blog? I am moderating them as well as I am going to cut off comments after a post is so old. I am so tired of all this spam and all people who leave the same comments on several posts. It’s obvious they are trying to promote their site or blog and I am for that. But when you abuse someone’s comments area with useless comments you don’t have any respect for the person’s blog. And it really makes you look bad, just today I marked about 10 comments as spam from one person who kept writing the same comments on 10 of mine posts. This person was trying very hard to raise their ranking to a blog that talked about diet pills that work. So that to avoid spending an hour or more deleting useless comments I have decided to close comments for old posts. I have tried so many times to allow people to comment, but again the people that abuse the system ruins it for everyone else.
